This month I have needed to break the chains of slavery to my things. I have needed to learn how to let go. Now I want to share with you a key question that helped me to break free, it might help you too.
When I moved to Barcelona ten years ago, I had only one heavily overweight suitcase with me. During the years I have managed to accumulate amazing amount of stuff, which I didn’t even realize until I took a decision to move again.
I must admit that the idea to let go of my precious things and even some not that precious was tough and I kept procrastinating the task as long as I could… Once I started this task by asking myself a key question “do I really need this?” This question was a key to gain clarity and then I created three categories to help me on this task: KEEP; TRASH, RECYCLE/DONATE.
The challenge for July is to find at least one item for each category. William Morris has said “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”
This quote applies very well to our thoughts too. There some thoughts that support us and encourage us – those we keep. There are thoughts that make us feel bad and discourage – those we trash. Then there are thoughts that served their purpose on certain time for example a child is told not to talk to strangers – when the child grows this thought, he/she can let go of this thought. Once you have done the above exercise with material things, you can do the same with your thoughts.
Do you have a question or comment you'd like to share? I'd love to hear from you. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you personally.
