I was grateful for the opportunity to learn from her and wanted to know how she had found her path. Once she shared her story with me, I have even more respect for this spectacular professional motivator! Our challenging moments don't define us as we are so much more! Cat's story is a great example how to move forward in life and become a star of your life!
1. Tell us about yourself and your business.
I was born in Newport News, Virginia. I guess you could say I was an odd kid and pretty much every year of school my mom was told that I was “gifted” from sports to the arts.
Since 2002, I have been fortunate enough to live my dream and KNOW what my life plan is. I created Cat’s Club Fitness and I have worked diligently to open my program to the public. Cat’s Club Fitness is a no-nonsense, results oriented customized fitness program.
2. How did you find your path? Was there a special event that led you to this path?
I was active in various school programs and ended up gravitating towards art when entering college in 1993-94. My stint at VCU as an art major was brief. I dropped out after a year. My curiosity with life was what motivated me to spend time traveling and living off of the earth. I had no stable home and most of the nineties I spent on the streets of many different cities and states.
I was getting tired of the fast life so in 1998, I joined the US ARMY as a Patriot Missiles Systems Operator & Maintainer (14T10). In the Army I was recognized as a leader early on and was in perfect position to become a Drill Instructor. I was not only in charge of a sixteen wheel vehicle with 4 Patriot Missiles loaded on the back but I was also given duties of leading full platoons in marches, military PT and long runs. I felt as if I had finally found my mission in life. Unfortunately, once they discovered my sexual preference was sometimes of the same sex, I was terminated due to the law at the time (DON’T ASK DON’T TELL). Upon the Army sending me back to the US, they left me penniless and on my own. Considering I entered the Army homeless, it sent me back to the streets of Boston MA. My life was in disarray but after much prayer, circumstances landed me in Los Angeles CA.
California was my opportunity to start anew. I built a business of fitness based on my sports background, military training and an overall passion to be a positive impact on the world. Since the Army stripped me of my dream of being a soldier, I have been determined to stay fulfilled helping this great country of ours and its allies gain more motivation to get, be and stay fit.
4. If there were one thing you could tell people to try to do that would help them on their journey, what would it be?
My mission is to motivate each person to never give up on their goals. It’s important to remember that wellness is a life-long journey. I truly believe we should all be prepared to push ourselves consistently until we perish. In my opinion, there is no ending to a healthy lifestyle. The excitement I have for fitness comes from the fact that it’s unforgiving. Fitness comes with no understanding of excuses. You either maintain good fitness or you will FOR SURE shorten your life span. If you’re busy with work and kids… busy with life… the mind and body doesn't make concessions. You MUST take care of your health and wellness or your mind and body will eventually break down. It’s that simple. There’s no loophole in this rule.
5. Do you have a special affirmation or message that you would like to share with the readers?
If I had to leave all of you with something motivating it would be this:
In order to meet your daily responsibilities with ease, you all must NOT compromise your health and well-being. Don’t do the bare minimum or procrastinate in any way… The longer you wait the harder it will be to get on track and improve your life overall with fitness. No more excuses because the truth is, you’re not fooling anyone. From the skinniest person to the heaviest, it all comes to the same conclusion in the end. Be well and stay fit or something will happen to force you to OR even worse, you may run out of time to make the improvements necessary to reduce the side effects of age.
