I’m very familiar with the prison of perfectionism. So many years, I experienced the feeling that nothing that I did was good enough… I tried to do my best, but I felt that my best was never good enough for my brutal inner critic. I started to believe that not only what I did was not good enough, but I wasn’t good enough. This thinking kept me playing small and hiding my gifts. I compared myself to others and no matter how well I was doing, I felt that I was 'less than' and therefore I let others take the spotlight.
Perfectionism is one of our ego’s tricks. It’s a game that keeps us busy and focused on doing instead of being. We won’t be able to share our gifts and shine our Light as there’s always something to improve. We are never ready if we allow our ego to run the show.
Luckily there was a point when I got enough for not being enough. I realized that I was playing a never ending game. I could always come up with something that would make me feel that I'm not enough. I asked myself what would change if I’d believe that I am enough. I got my answer and took stumbling steps towards trusting that I am enough. I chose to start sharing what I know through my work. I wrote on my very first blog post in January 2013 that ‘Think about how many times a baby falls while learning to walk? So many times we want to get the results of the change immediately and get upset when it does not happen - be patient and think that you can change!”
“The expert at anything was once a beginner.” ― Helen Hayes
It is important that you learn to embrace being a beginner at something and not to expect immediate mastery. Your skills will grow as you practice. Separate your doing from your being - you might fail in doing something, but you are not failing in being, you are learning as a Soul and that’s why we are here.
You have the power to free yourself from the ego’s perfectionism prison. Remember that we all know something that can be valuable to somebody else. What kind of gifts you have that you could share with others? How could you help others? How could you help to raise the level of awareness?
