What is the scariest thing you’ve done? Or maybe it’s something that you are still avoiding?
I remember when I was called out to do the scariest thing that I had avoided for years… It happened in 2007, when I was looking for a new direction in my life. I felt that I was stuck, so I went to see a famous palm reader. He examined my palms and told me various things that were accurate and brought me insights. Finally, he told me to stop and take a look inside. It seemed like a scary idea!
For years I had stored unresolved issues in the back of my mind. I had pushed them into the darkest corner and thought that I would never need to deal with them. Now he told me to start going through them. I thought that it was a crazy idea! As much as you might resist doing spring cleaning, I resisted taking a look at my overloaded memory storage.
But when he said that if I wouldn’t do it, I would just keep repeating similar situations over and over again… I decided to dare to take this advice on board!
Have you ever opened a closet door and had faced an avalanche? That’s how I felt when I opened the door to my memories. It felt overwhelming, uncomfortable and scary, but now I’m so happy that I had the courage to do it.
Over the years, I learned to love to do the inner work, and of course, it became easier as well after the initial turmoil. The light of awareness makes the monsters disappear. My inner work created big positive changes in my life, so in the beginning of my coaching career I eagerly wanted to guide my clients on the same path! I had completely forgotten how I had felt in the first place!
I’ve learned many new things and I want to share them with you, but the most important thing is that you find your own motivation. It can be found simply from the aim to avoid pain or gain pleasure. Once you know the origin of your motivation, it’s time to set a concrete result that you want to achieve. The change starts from within and reflects outwards. As Stephen R. Covey said, "Motivation is the inner fire. If someone tries to light that fire under you, it is likely that it will return only for a moment. "
Let me know what changes you want in your life and what is your motivation for the change?
