The season of giving is here! This is traditionally the time to think about what we could give to our loved ones, how we could give back to our communities, and how we could support charities that are close to our hearts.

For many of us giving is easy. It gives us that warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

You’d think that the opposite action could feel as easy too but it’s not always the case.

Receiving things, compliments, kindness, or love can feel challenging for some of us. We might feel uncomfortable with it. We might immediately think about what we can give back to balance things out. Have you ever felt that way? I certainly have.

The good news is that the art of receiving is something that you can practice and learn.

One of the keys is getting curious about what is really happening when you are receiving.

What are you feeling?
What are you thinking?
What are you doing?

The awareness of what is happening will give you an opportunity to choose.

What if next time you could receive with open arms?

If you need some further help with this, remember that when you are receiving, another person has an opportunity to give. Receivers are needed so that givers can give and receive as Francis of Assis expressed it:

“For it is in giving that we receive.”

I wish you a blessed day!
