One of the lessons I’ve been reflecting on in my own Earth School journey is free choice.
We often have a choice in what we do, what we don’t do, and how we respond to life’s experiences.
And something I’ve come to appreciate more deeply is that both action and inaction have consequences.
Sometimes, choosing not to do something is exactly the right decision. It might be an act of self-care, setting healthy boundaries, or recognizing that something is no longer aligned with who we are.
But what about those times when you genuinely want to do something, yet you keep putting it off?
Perhaps there’s a dream you’ve been postponing, a conversation you’ve been avoiding, or a next step in your life or business that you know you want to take.
You tell yourself you’ll do it when you have more time, more clarity, or more confidence.
Yet somehow, that moment never arrives.
What If Something Deeper Is Influencing Your Choices?
It’s easy to assume that when we’re not taking action, we simply need more discipline, motivation, or a better plan.
But that isn’t always the case.
Sometimes, what looks like procrastination or lack of motivation is connected to something much deeper.
Perhaps a past experience has taught you that being visible isn’t safe. Maybe an old belief makes you question whether you’re worthy of greater success. Or perhaps part of you wants to move forward while another part is trying to protect you from disappointment or rejection.
These inner patterns can quietly influence our decisions, even when we’re consciously ready for something different.
And this is where higher awareness becomes so valuable.
Instead of judging ourselves for not taking action, we can become curious.
-
What’s really holding me back?
-
Is there a fear, an old belief, or an inner story influencing my decisions?
-
What might become possible if I could see this situation from a higher perspective?
Higher Awareness Opens the Door to New Choices
This is the work I love doing with my clients.
Helping them look beneath the surface, recognize patterns they may not even be aware of, and discover new possibilities.
When we begin to recognize the inner stories influencing our choices, we create an opportunity to respond differently.
We may discover that the obstacle isn’t what we originally thought.
And sometimes, the next step isn’t about pushing harder or doing more.
It’s about seeing something differently.
That shift in awareness can open the door to a new choice, one that reflects who we are today rather than what we’ve experienced in the past.
After all, your past does not have to determine your future.
A Reflection for You
Is there something you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t taken action on?
Rather than pushing yourself harder, take a moment to explore what might be underneath.
Ask yourself:
What am I choosing by not taking action, and is that choice supporting the future I want to create?
Remember, choosing not to act can be a conscious and empowering decision, too. The invitation is to become aware of whether you’re choosing intentionally or allowing an old pattern to make the decision for you.
And if you’d like support exploring what’s been holding you back, I’m here.
Sometimes, having someone help us see what we can’t yet see for ourselves makes all the difference.
Wishing you greater awareness, conscious choices, and new possibilities!
