Recently, I received a little reminder about momentum from an unexpected teacher: a horse.
If you’ve been following me on social media, you may know that I love horse riding. I usually ride my favorite horse, Negro, but recently my instructor surprised me by asking me to ride Maximus.
Maximus is a beautiful 7-year-old Arabian mix, and it felt like quite an acknowledgment because they are very selective about who gets to ride him.
His rhythm was completely different from what I’m used to. Arabians are known for their speed, and his trot was so much faster that I had to adjust quickly and find a new rhythm with him.
As I was riding, I couldn’t help but smile.
Maybe the Universe was giving me a message:
It’s time to pick up the pace. 😂
Especially in this Year of the Fire Horse, the timing seemed rather appropriate.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized the message wasn’t simply about going faster.
Maybe it was about being willing to find a new rhythm.
When Your Old Rhythm No Longer Fits
Sometimes we’re ready for the next level, but we keep approaching it with the same habits, priorities, and patterns that got us where we are.
And sometimes that rhythm no longer fits where we want to go.
That doesn’t necessarily mean working harder, filling your calendar, or trying to do everything faster.
Creating momentum might mean finally moving forward with something you’ve been thinking about for months.
It might mean making a decision you’ve been postponing.
Giving more of your time and energy to what matters most.
Letting go of something that no longer deserves so much of your attention.
Or allowing yourself to want more than you did before.
Sometimes momentum begins with one decision:
I’m ready to move forward.
Look Back Before You Move Forward
Before deciding where you want to go next, there is value in recognizing the distance you’ve already traveled.
We can become so focused on the next goal that we forget to acknowledge our progress.
Think back to where you were at the beginning of this year.
What have you learned?
What have you moved through?
What have you created or changed?
What do you understand today that you didn’t understand then?
And what are you grateful for?
Your past doesn’t only contain challenges or things you wish had happened differently. It also contains evidence of your growth.
When you recognize that, you don’t have to create your future from the person you used to be.
You get to create it from who you are today.
What Would More Momentum Look Like for You?
As we enter the final four months of the year, there is still plenty of time for something meaningful to shift.
Maybe you want more momentum in your business.
Maybe it’s your income.
Perhaps there is a project you’re finally ready to bring to life.
Or maybe the change you want is more personal.
Whatever it is, consider these two questions:
What would more momentum look like for you?
And what would support you in creating it?
You may discover that the answer isn’t to push harder.
Perhaps, like me riding Maximus, you simply need to recognize that where you’re going next requires a different rhythm.
You already have the experiences, lessons, and growth that brought you this far.
Now you get to decide how you want to move forward.
Here’s to creating meaningful momentum for what comes next. 💜✨
