Have you ever wondered how to create freedom from the past?

Yesterday my friend interviewed me in her Facebook community about this topic as most of us have experienced challenging moments at some point in our lives. Some might still feel raw even many years later.

Yet you might keep hoping that one day you can just forget what happened and have a fresh start.

At least that was what I did…

I was trying to forget a chapter in my life.

The chapter where I lost my boyfriend to suicide when I was just sixteen years old and where I was very near to end my own life….

I kept hiding it for 15 years as I was not ready to share THAT story.

I did not want people to know because I was so full of guilt, shame, and self-blame. I believed that I should have saved him.

I pushed the experience in the back of my mind but it felt like a cosmic rubber band would bring back the emotional hurt again and again.

If we keep carrying unresolved past hurts, our lives are still affected by them. The experience colors how we see the world, others, and ourselves. We might even keep sabotaging our happiness and success.

They say that time heals but I believe that we also need to be willing to let us heal. When I was willing, I found Spiritual Teachers who guided me to work through the pain that I had carried and eventually led me to freedom from my past. I started seeing the lessons I learned and I was able to experience inner peace. Plus I was able to feel joy and love wholeheartedly. Now I know it’s possible. And it’s possible for you too.

“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” — Brené Brown
